Music Video: Horowitz in Moscow 1986
In 1986 Russian pianist Vladimir Horowitz returned to Moscow for the first time in 60 years to perform in his homeland. This was an event that can only be compared to the debut of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony May 7, 1824 in the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna or the riotous premier performance of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring May 29, 1913 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. Horowitz approached his repertoire in chronological order, Beginning with this Scarlatti Sonata. Horowitz put Scarlatti on the map with his 1960s piano recordings of a portion of the 555 keyboard pieces by Italian Domenico Scarlatti.
